I just heard word that the new starter is in and will be installed today in my Dad's garage. Hopefully going to be able to head up north to finish off the last leg later this week barring any additional problems.
I am going back through some of the previous posts to update them with pictures that I had taken on my camera and could not upload on the road(all I had was a smartphone).

Not so fast...
Our short lived thrill of victorious starter repair has given way to the agony of defeat. Upon testing the starter again yesterday morning, the starter is back to square 0. Upon further examination of said starter's innards, I have made the esecutive decision that aquiring a new starter is in order (it appears to already have been rebuilt at least once before). I have, admittedly, taken the loss pretty hard. In reality though, it is a minor setback for the Wing and I should be able to get it back over the Mighty Mack later this week once the new starter arrives. I find that, after its outstanding performance over the past few weeks, it has become very important to me that the Wing completes the trip back to T.C. under its own power...it has earned it!).
In the meantime, I met up with Jeanette at the bridge yesterday and am catching up on some much needed time with her ( and Sully and George of course). Stay tuned for the last leg of the rescue mission, as well as some supplemental pictures from the trip that I will be posting.

It's aliiiiive!!!
After $17.00 for a set of brushes (see old brush above), 3 hours of work and a few well placed curse words, the Wing is firing up better than ever! Big day for the Zerilli boys, we can now add "motorcycle starter repair" to our list of services. It was an awesome feeling to hear the bike fire up on the first try!
In addition to having the starter worked over, the Wing got a well needed bath and oil change for good measure. Now if the weather will just cooperate, I will be back on the road home soon...

Without a hitch? Not quite...
In an intersting stroke of luck (some bad and some good), the starter on the Wing decided to quit about 30 miles from my parents house in Manistique. With some help from a couple of kind folks at the gas station we got it push started and it is now in my Dad's garage where we are giving it the diagnostic treatment.
It really is something that the starter held out for 3000 miles to get me back to Michigan before locking up. It is looking like I will get a chance to rebuild my first starter!
